All About The Browser

The Bargain Browser is a locally owned, free advertising paper distributed weekly by a network of private carriers to over 21,000 homes in Robertson County and northwestern Sumner County.

The Browser was founded by Doug and Barbara Lee in 1975 to fill a growing need for an effective advertising vehicle in their home area. Doug and Barbara began their joint publishing career shortly after each graduated from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.

The fledgling publishers launched their "Community Advertising Paper" among modest surroundings in the basement of their first home -- with no experience, little equipment, no established advertisers, no bank account, no employees and no office space. But adversity was gradually overtaken by ambition, the inaugural edition of the Browser hummed off the presses on Nov. 26,1975.

Over the years, the Browser has become widely accepted as the best advertising source for the community. As the Browser has evolved into a leadership role within the advertising community, the company has experienced a wide variety of exciting changes:

• Publication frequency has doubled from twice a month to weekly editions published every Tuesday.

• Circulation has grown from 8,000 copies per week to over 21,000 each week.

• Average weekly page count continues to grow, along with the number of weekly inserts and special sections.

• Distribution has grown to the point that it now takes nearly 30 private carriers working in 10 separate communities to deliver the Bargain Browser.

• The Growth of the Browser facilitated moves into two conveniently located offices in major advertising areas.
